Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Composing and analyzing government estimates for modifications. Reviewing preliminary plans and specifications for proposed work. Investigating and composing modifications to contracts. Multi-million dollar contracts involving prime contractor, sub-contractor, suppliers, and cost-reimbursable contracts with railroads, highways, and utilities may be involved.Ĭivil Engineer (Office): Work involves administration of assigned civil works construction contracts.
Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.Ĭivil Engineer (Construction): Work may involve construction of levees, flood walls, box culverts, channel diversion structures, sanitary and storm sewers, pumping plants bridge construction, landscaping, and operations and maintenance of locks, dams and recreational facilities.
Progression from the entry-level to the target level will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. As you progress through the program you will be assigned progressively more complex assignments supporting management of civil works construction projects. As an entry level engineer at the GS-5, GS-7 or GS-9 level you will participate in developmental assignments and training designed to extend your educational background and learn the requirements of the Corps' professional environment.
